Scarlett is an international blues entertainer / recording artist with a background in music and theatre performing arts based in Fairfield County, CT. She delicately balances a diverse and eclectic repertoire from traditional and contemporary blues to country, folk, R&B, funk and jazz. Artists whose styles she admires include Etta James, Bill Withers, Keb' Mo ', Bonnie Raitt, Tracy Chapman, Stevie Wonder, and others. Scarlett is accompanied by her band Scarlett Blue, and her raspy voice which is often described as sexy and gritty, is distinctly her own and easily recognizable. Just as notable as her distinctive sound is her on-stage performance which audiences often describe as a stimulating and highly interactive show.

About Christian Martirano...
Christian Martirano, born February 20, 1956 in New Rochelle, NY was raised in a very musical family. Relatives on his motherâs side have a long history in theater performance dating back to Vaudeville. Martirano, son of Jean and John Martirano (both musicians), and nephew of the late Salvatore Martirano (renown 20th electronic music pioneer and gifted composer) http://ems.music.uiuc.edu/~martiran/, has been involved with synthesis since 1970. Mr. Martirano began studying piano at age 5 under Baruch Arnon (Julliard professor, private instructor) and decided to pursue a musical career and went on to complete a Bachelor of the Arts in Music (BA), and Master of the Arts in Teaching (MAT) at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY studying under the late William Harms (classical piano), Neil Waltzer (jazz piano), and Edgar Hilliar (pipe-organ). Mr. Martiranoâs thesis included the designing of a multi-purpose lab for use in teaching music, synthesis, mathematics, and language utilizing a common workstation (before multi-media was a common âbuzzâ word).
Performance Highlights
Mr. Martirano has performed and recorded with various groups including Voices (on Atlantic - ATCO Records), The Solution (Last Kingdom Records - distributed by Vision Records), and has worked as session synthesizer programmer for numerous artists on diverse projects ranging from film to the creation of CD ROMs. Martirano had the great fortune to perform with his esteemed Uncle Salvatore Martirano and his brother Lex at the Wilfred Laurier University in Canada utilizing Moog synthesizers, Mellotrons, tape machines and 2 Grand Pianos. Martiranoâs band Emily toured the US in the 70âs performing for the Special Olympics culminating in their writing the international theme song for the Special Olympics âYear of the Child â (1979) entitled The Child. It was performed by the group with a 50 voice choir at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. at the presidential premier of the move Superman attended by President Jimmy Carter and dignitaries from over 50 countries. He regularly performed for the synthesizer manufacturer Kurzweil Music Systems at major trade shows all over the world such as NAMM, AES, Franfurt Musik Messe and Seoul CES. Martirano regularly performed at these shows with such notorieties as Jon Andersen of famed group Yes, Rod Morgenstein (famed drummer for Dixie Dreggs, Winger and others),Jordan Rudess (famed keyboardist for Dixie Dreggs, Dream Theater), and many others. He is well connected with many recording legends such as Stevie Wonder and Greg Mathisen and film score composers such as Fred Mullin, and Michael Kaman as well. Other noted performances include the Bach at the Beacon concert series where he led a group of 6 synthesist including the world renowned Wendy Carlos (Switched on Bach, Disneyâs Tron soundtrack, A Clockwork Orange soundtrack, and many more) in performing Carlosâs Switched On Back 2000. In 2003-2004, Mr. Martirano was employed by the noted Obie award winning director, Kim Hughes (Sakinaâs Restaurant) to act as musical director, arranger and programmer for the Ministry of Progress musical which opened at the Jane Street Theater off Broadway. He led the Ministry of Progress band and cast through a diverse score created by 11 composers. Martirano is currently working with Faith Trent, Tommy Boy recording artist on her new up and coming album. He is programming and performing all keyboard work for the project. He has also been contacted by Hall and Oates to continue to help on their next project beginning in the summer of 2004. He is performing regularly with local area high society band Higher & Higher a 4 piece band that heavily features the keyboards. In addition, Martirano makes guest appearances with Scarlett Lee Moore, recording artist and Party Boss, an all original act performing throughout Connecticut.
Professional Career
In the late 1980âs Martirano worked at East Coast Music where he programmed synthesizers and set up state of the art studios for noted artists such as Steven Schwartz (wrote the music for Pippin, Godspell), Mercer Mayer (noted childrenâs storybook author), and many others.
Mr. Martirano was the Director Of Product Development for Kurzweil Music Systems (a division of Young Chang Akki Co. Ltd.). He helped lead a great engineering group to produce the finest electronic keyboards available including the K2000 and K2500 series hybrid synthesizer/ samplers, the PC88, PC2 and PC Series of Performance MIDI controller keyboards with built in sounds, the Micro Piano and PC2r MIDI tone modules, and others which have all received the Industry top honors from manufacturers, dealers, and consumers alike. Under Martiranoâs leadership, Kurzweil achieved 6 TEC Awards (being nominated 7 times), 2 Editorâs Choice awards and many others. Martirano also drove the development of Kurzweilâs acclaimed signal processors including the KSP8 (8 channel multi-effect, multi-bus, signal processor), the Rumour and Mangler, and the KDFX expansion board for the K2500, 2600 series. Kurzweil has earned the reputation of âthe Steinwayâ of electronic music - Jim Aiken - Keyboard Magazine. Mr. Martirano began with Kurzweil since 1985 and served as Director of Product Development from 1990 through March of 2002.
